Escape to Alcatraz

Today was Susan's Birthday so I took the day off of work and we went up to San Francisco to visit Alcatraz.

It was quite a hike up the hill to get to the prison.

Maya enjoyed the audio tour.

As did her mom

Elmo wasn't so happy to be thrown in the slammer though.

It was a nice day with some good views of San Francisco

Finally, while waiting for the boat to take us home, Susan and I ate birthday cupcakes while Maya ran around.

Weekend Mornings

Maya and I have a ritual almost every weekend...while mommy gets some much needed sleep, we walk to Starbucks and hang out for an hour or so.

These days Maya is riding in style in her car, which is one of the best purchases we have made. She loves cruising around in it.

Maya - 09-28-09

I get my 4 shots of espresso (over ice) and she usually either get milk or a Mango Smoothie.

Maya - 09-28-09

Sometimes we'll get a snack, today we had some pumpkin bread.

Maya - 09-28-09

I sit around and read the paper while Maya runs around and points out every dog that passes by.

Maya - 09-28-09

Not a bad way to start the day at all...

Maya's best friend

This weekend we went up to the Emeryville Public Market for some Jamaican food (mmmmmm....curried goat).

On the way back from Emeryville, Maya fell asleep while pretending to talk on the phone.

All four members of the family went up: me, Susan, Maya and Maya's new best friend, Elmo.

Elmo entered the picture a few weeks ago when Maya and I were killing a Saturday morning at Toys R Us. We were walking through the store and she saw him on the shelf and immediately asked for him, they haven't been apart since.

Elmo now goes every where we go (and is beginning to look like it).

She now gets excited at the mere mention of Elmo and we even went to the library today to get some Elmo books.

American Choppers

Maya has popped a few more teeth out recently. She has quite the toothy grin.

She now has some molars for chewing and the two side incisors finally came in. Next on the schedule are her canines which are supposed to appear between 16 and 20 months.

Ice Cream in the Park

The whole family has been sick for the last week or so with the flu. It was Maya's first time being sick and it wasn't much fun for any of us, especially her.

This weekend we were feeling better so we made our way to the park for some play time. Maya loves playing with a ball we got her, she'll throw it and chase it around and even try to kick it.

Maya - 09-14-08

She mostly likes to throw it and have me go chase it

Maya - 09-14-08

The ice cream man came by while we were there and who am I to deny the joy of ice cream for Maya.

I got her a "whistle pop" which was called a "push up" when I was a youngster.

Maya - 09-14-08

Yes, that's ice cream on her forehead! It started getting everywhere but she was most unhappy that it got on her shirt.

Maya - 09-14-08

At least there's an easy solution for that....

15 Months

Maya turned 15 months on Saturday and what a difference a month makes!

Maya is now talking up a storm. She still has a pretty small vocabulary but she uses the words appropriately. Her favorites are "momma" (of course), "bye", "night night", "shoes", "doggy" (that one still sounds like "daddy"), and "ewww" (we wont talk about when she says that one).

Maya - 15 Months

She loves playing around and listening to music. She can even do some of the motions for itsy bitsy spider.

She also likes wearing her mom's hats.

Maya - 15 Months

She loves to run! Sometimes her feet go faster than her body and last week she took a hard tumble in the park and hit her face. She had quite a bump on her forehead and her nose got scraped.
