Aunts and Uncles and Cousins

Maya had a busy week visiting with relatives as we had several guests recently.

Maya's Uncle Mike came through last weekend and we had a fun night going out for dinner and hanging out at the apartment.

Then on Tuesday we went up to San Francisco to see Maya's Aunt Katie, Uncle Nate, and cousins Lydia and Emma. On Thursday they came by and visited Maya at home. Maya loves Lydia and Emma and was was very sad when they had to go back to Denver.

Blue Moon at the beach

The last Friday of March is a TiVo holiday, called the blue moon holiday, celebrating the day the first tivo shipped (10 years ago!). Since we had the day off, we decided to head to Santa Cruz for a day at the beach.

Fortunately the weather was perfect and we had a nice day, unfortunately most of the boardwalk isn't open for the season yet but that didn't stop our fun.

Maya loved playing in the sand, she used her shovel to dig and ran around like a mad baby, she was surprisingly fast on the sand.

Maya was frightened of the water and would get scared if it came close, but it was probably a good thing since it is so cold and the fact that there was a sea lion feeding right next the beach near where we were sitting.

Since no beach trip is complete without ice cream, we stopped by Marianne's Ice Cream on the way out of town

Arts & Crafts

On Friday Maya met up with her buddies Acacia and Jada at the library for arts and crafts.

They pasted scraps of paper and scribbled with crayons

Then she got to play on the computer which she loves.

They then did some serious damage to a bowl of strawberries

Then on Saturday we decided to hang out in San Francisco for a bit, one of the stores we stopped in gave Maya a baloon and she carried it all around San Francisco.

Jumping for joy

The past couple weeks Maya has discovered how much fun it is to jump off of things. She's been getting good at it and can get a little bit of air.

She will crouch down and say 1...2...3...go before she jumps.

She also has seemed to turn a corner with her blocks, she used to be all about tearing down the block tower I would build, now she's all about building it up. I usually build a base for her and she goes from there, last night she used all the blocks and kept the levels even almost all the way up. She would search for the right size block before putting it on. That was the first time I had seen her do that.

21 Months

Maya turned 21 months old this weekend. We took advantage of the rare nice day (It's been raining constantly for the last month or so!) and visited a local park that has a little train that circles the park.

Maya got a little scared as we were about to board and we thought we were going to have to abandon the ride, but at the last minute she decided to enjoy it. She loved waving at everyone as we cruised around.

Afterwards we played at the playground, Maya mainly tried to play with the water fountain.

Maya is still going strong, she loves going to play in the park and is making more friends. She is now talking non stop. She has added "I like" to her repertoire, reserved mainly for sweets. She loves chocolate!

Dinner time is still a bit of a struggle, she mainly just wants to eat rice and when hungry she'll alternate between saying "eat" and "rice". She does like the brown rice so hopefully she's getting some nutrients.

Bedtime seems to be the new battle, I think she's figured out that there's no way for us to force her to sleep and she now fights it with every ounce of her being. No matter how tired she is she wont sleep until she absolutely collapses. Hopefully this will be a short phase because she was finally on a schedule for the last few months.

She loves helping me in the kitchen and has gotten good at scooping up flour to put in the bowl. The other day we were rolling out chapatis (which I've finally perfected!) and the result looked something like this:
